Vaccinations

Vaccination Requirements for Hajj

As part of your Hajj preparations, it is essential that all pilgrims comply with the health and vaccination requirements set by the Saudi authorities. These requirements are in place to protect both individual pilgrims and the wider community during the Hajj season.

All pilgrims travelling from the UK, USA, Canada, and Europe must ensure they meet the following vaccination guidelines before travelling.

Mandatory Vaccination (Required for All Pilgrims)

Meningitis ACWY (Quadrivalent Vaccine)

This is a compulsory requirement for all pilgrims attending Hajj.

Although the Meningitis ACWY vaccination can be taken up to 10 days before your flight, it is strongly recommended to take it as soon as possible to allow time to recover from side effects if any.

  • You must present a valid vaccination certificate
  • The vaccine must be taken at least 10 days before arrival in Saudi Arabia
  • Accepted vaccines:
    • ACWY Polysaccharide – valid for up to 3 years
    • ACWY Conjugate – valid for up to 5 years
  • Your certificate must clearly match your passport details

Failure to provide a valid vaccination certificate may result in denial of boarding at check-in for your flight, preventing you from travelling for Hajj.

Additional Vaccinations (Country-Specific Requirements)

These are only required if applicable based on your country of residence or travel history:

Polio Vaccine
  • Required for pilgrims arriving from countries where polio is present
  • Must be taken between 4 weeks and 12 months before travel

👉 Most pilgrims travelling directly from the UK, USA, Canada, and Europe will not require this, unless they have recently travelled to affected regions.

Yellow Fever Vaccine

  • Required only for pilgrims travelling from countries where yellow fever is endemic
  • Must be taken at least 10 days before travel
  • Certificate is valid for life

👉 Not applicable to most pilgrims travelling from the UK, USA, Canada, or Europe.

Strongly Recommended Vaccinations

While not always mandatory, the following are highly recommended for your safety:

COVID-19 Vaccination

  • Pilgrims are advised to be fully vaccinated with an approved vaccine

Seasonal Influenza (Flu Vaccine)

  • Recommended for all pilgrims
  • Especially important for:
    • Elderly individuals
    • Those with chronic health conditions
    • Pregnant women and young children

General Medical Advice

  • Ensure all routine vaccinations are up to date (e.g. tetanus, measles, etc.)
  • Consult your GP, travel clinic, or healthcare provider early
  • Carry all vaccination certificates with you when travelling
  • Allow sufficient time in case of side effects or delays

Important Reminder

Vaccination requirements are strictly enforced for Hajj, and it is your responsibility to ensure full compliance.

We strongly advise completing your vaccinations as early as possible to avoid any issues with your travel or entry into Saudi Arabia.
